Stunning is highly discouraged, but where necessary the stunning method must be reversible (cannot cause harm that leads to death).

Therefore, after careful consideration, HFSAA has decided to approve reversible methods of stunning under strict supervision to ensure that the animal does not die. However, HFSAA will not allow lethal and irreversible stunning methods which will cause the death of the animal.

Preference will always be on no stunning, then next ideal is post-slaughter stunning, and the least ideal is reversible pre-slaughter stunning.
